I received a phone call from a customer service rep. From American Finanical Card Services today at my work site. He stated that I been pre-approved for 1,800 - 2,000 dollar credit line with thier "credit card". He then continue to ask me questions, Are you 18 years of age, Do you have a checking account, and How long have you been with your bank? I then asked him questions of my own. I asked him how he got my work number and if there was a website that I could go and verify who they are and what they are about. I then asked if there was a telephone number that I could contact him back with my decision concerning this "credit card" offer.
Do not give any info concerning yourself; including social security number, checking account info, etc.
I went to the web and was shock at what I saw and was reading.
I then called the number that was given to me. Busy, Busy, Busy! I then dialed a 800 number that I read on the web and requested to have my work number removed. The first customer service rep. Hung up on me, the second, hung up on me. Third time was a charm. I was never rude. I was calm and asked the customer service rep. To please not to hang up on me. That I was only requesting to have my work number removed from their call list and that I was not interested in any offer that they were promoting.
Companies like these, prey on people who are desperate for a second chance. Hang in there. There is always life after a bankrupt, repossession, etc. Check any offer out first before you decide.
