I was, like many of you, taken by someone I thought was a legitimate magazine solicitor trying to win points to go on a trip to Cancun just last night. Normally I wouldn't waste time but the guy was very assertive and it just so happens I was planning on renewing my subscription anyway so I figured why not help him out?
After he left however, I read over my receipt and immediately became suspicious so I checked on-line and as many of you were, was appalled to see I'd just been scammed. My question is, if I stop the check first thing Monday morning (today being Sunday), will I be able to refute the minimum collection of a $30 penalty hinted at on the back of my receipt? Or do I even bother trying to send in my notice of cancellation? Judging by what I've read, I have a hard time believing I'm going to get my money back unless I stop the check now. Any advice you guys could offer me would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I'm from Cookeville, TN, which is a college town and I'm sure these guys have hit other places in the area, so anyone reading this from the Middle and Eastern Tennessee areas beware.
