Ripoff - never received promised refund

Jan. 2005 I bought, from Best Buy as a package deal, a Sony computer and monitor, plus a HP all-in-one printer. The printer would not work when I hooked it up so I took it back to Best Buy, and a clerk checked it and said it was defective. He offered me a different model. Back home, I carefully assembled all the proofs of purchase required by Sony and HP, then mailed them.

After a few months and no rebates, I contacted Sony and was told I did not submit all the proper proofs. (I had.) I told Best Buy. They said there was nothing they could do about Sony, that I would have to contact them myself to try to resolve this problem, and added that they were thinking of not offering rebates any more because they were too much trouble. I feel that they had a responsibility to pursue this because they offered the products with rebates.instead, they tossed the problem back to me to deal with.

As for the printer, they claimed that I didn't get a rebate because the original printer had been returned and the replacement was therefore not valid for rebate. I was never told this when I returned that printer. Nor was I ever notified by HP in spite of the fact that I sent copies of all sales slips and original bar codes. Best Buy gave me a small restitution and some extra discount coupons for the printer but that is as far as they would go.
