This is an actual ad I read this past sunday in the local paper, and thought.."hmmm i wonder what this is all about, HR work sounds great." So I called the number listed and spoke to a nice man named Paul.
I was a little concerned because I used to recruit for Vector Marketing and know how the sales/disribution world works. I did my research and found that "TDI", actually Trebor Distribution Inc is KIRBY (the vacume cleaner people). With more research I had found that people go into these interviews with hopes of HR work or clerical, and get suckered into selling vacumes door to door.
With this information, I re-contacted Paul the recuiter. I was very nice and cordial about the situation. He rudely said to me "YOU HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT THIS COMPANY!" I laughed and camly said, that usacomplaints.com has documented the "bate-and-switch" tactic their recruiting office practices. I asked him if this was true, and he said yes... Confirming the ad was indeed misleading.
Just be careful to what interviews you choose to go to. Your time is valuable. If you want to sell door to door, by all means call kirby, but do check out what former employees have to say about the company. No one likes to be mislead. They as well as Vector aka Cutco, LOVE to thrive off college students, especially in the summer whens schools out. Save yourself some time and effort and get a job that actually looks good on your resume.
