Ripoff reaches out to other states

I wish I would have found this report before my husband was ripped off.

My husband received a phone call saying he had been entered into a sweepstakes because he was a Visa cardholder. They told him about the prizes, and that he was guaranteed to win at least one of them. They also gave him a choice of receiving either a man's or woman's gold and diamond studded watch. They said that he would only have to purchase a magazine, I believe they said ESPN magazine.

He proceeded to tell them that he was not working due to an industrial accident, and that he did not have any money to do this. He repeated this fact to them several times that he just did not have the money. They led him to believe that the confirmation number that they gave him was for the prizes that he could have won.

He was informing me about this and how they were able to already have his card number on file, and to beat all they called him on a cell phone on loan to him by his brother. So, the phone was not even in his name. I told him that this did not sound right and that he needed to contact his bank immediately.

After contacting his bank, he was told that the charge had already been deducted from his account. So, after receiving the name of the company, I did some research on the internet to find a contact number for this so-called company. When I tried calling them, the message stated that they were closed, but there normal hours of operation were Mon-Thurs 9am-9pm, and Friday at certain times. It was 10:39am when I placed the call.

I decided at that time, to come back to this website and file a report. I hate to see anyone taken in by this kind of thing, but I can guarantee that they will NOT be getting any more of his money because between him and the bank, his card has been cancelled.

Please, do not be taken in by these people. They are scam artists and want your money. And, this is not just happening in Virginia because my husband lives in Maryland. I live in another state at this time, but I would not be surprised if they try to contact me.

Be cautious, and if someone calls you with this so-called sweepstakes baloney, and they have your card number on file already... Then ask questions!!! Especially on finding out how they were able to get the card information in the first place!!
