Like many other entries I read this evening, I left this experience with a bad taste of discuss in my mouth. I got the same phone call most got i suppose, " your a grand prize winner in our winners choice publishers sweepstakes..."
"... Give us your account number so we can pay for your processing fee, in exchange we will send you a free diamond watch..." ($15.00 shipping and handling and processing fee)..." in addition to the $1000000.00 cash prize you will also receive a free 35 mm camera with a 100 free rolls of Kodak film, and three-hundred something dollars in gifts and prizes..."
Now here was the getter. They told me..."We do ask that you do us a favor though, for the transfering and processing fees there is a one time fee of $82.11, but for your $82.11, you will be receiving 3 magazines of your choice for 36 months..."
So, I know, I know, I fell for it. Now normally I would have said "No" and hung up the phone, but, I thought this time I'll go along, what's the worst that can happen, I get 36 months of magazine subscriptions for only $82.11.
Back to the getter, they gave all of my numbers to me, and said the confermation papers would arrive in 8-10 working days. As soon as I got the information, I needed to fill it out and send it back a.S.A.P. So I wouldn't exceed their time limits. Three weeks later I received a first class envelope.inside the envelope was one wcp's official award release form, one wcp's order acknowledgment form with official claim number, a list of magazines I was supposed to get, plus all the extra bs, (watch, camera, etc.)
When I sat down to read it I noticed that the official paper work didn't jive. At the bottom of the second page was the agreement of 12 special offer installments of $82.11. Now wait a minute that's not what I agreed to on the phone.
So, I call the toll free number and get a tellamarketer. She tells me that I had already agreed to all of the terms and conditions previously on the phone. I told her that I was under the impression that it was a one time fee. She told me "to bad" and asked "if I would like to hear an audio play back of out first conversation.""It's not my fault you agreed to something you didn't understand." I asked to speak to the manager and was transfered to Amy Manning Ex. 300. (no employee number) She was even more rude, and insulting than the first young lady. I started to lose my temper, and told her that regardless what the details were, this paper work is not what I had first agreed to, so I needed to cancel my subscription. She flat out told me "NO." I got her name and what info I could out of her and hung up.
My wife immediatly called our bank, put a stop on that payment, cancelled our account, and had to go to the bank to reopen a new account. They're not going to be able to bleed up dry like the leech's that they are.
We'll see what happens next. When I found this web site I really felt stupid. I'll try and attach scanned copies of all the paper work I received. Hope this helps any way possible.
