I'm not going to write a sob story, but I do want everyone to know what LaCris Auto Sales of Bonne Terre, Missouri did to me. I am a single mother of two (beautiful) daughters, and on October 5th of this year I brought them in with me while looking to buy a car. This place was located just a few blocks up the road from me so I figured it was worth a shot.
Jim, the "manager", as he calls himself, met me on the lot. I saw a red 1995 Chevy Cavalier sitting in the lot and it definitely caught my eye. The body was in almost perfect condition, and the interior was perfect. You could tell it was well taken care of. Or so I thought.
I had $900 dollars to put down and I let him know that, and he (surprisingly!) said that was how much I needed for the Cavalier. I would still owe $2200, which I could pay in monthly payments as long as I paid them $500 to finance it. I said sure, I mean I needed a car to get back and forth to work.
Jim told me he had kids too, and he would never "screw me over" and was there to help. I should have known better. I asked him if I could test drive it. I took it up the road, drove fast, drove slow, stopped fast, stopped slow... Did the usual. And it drove perfectly. I was very impressed.
I went back, handed him the $900 cash and left that day with my car. The next day I went to get it inspected - it failed. I specifically asked him if it would pass (before I bought it) and he swore to me it would. Well, I told him about it and he said "bullsh! T! It should have passed! Bring it back here."
I went to class that evening, and was going to take it back the next morning. I put $10 in gas in it, because it was almost at a quarter of a tank, so just to be safe. And then a few minutes later (about 3 miles up the road from where I got the gas) it died. It wouldn't start. It acted like it was out of gas but I knew better.
The next morning I called my "buddy" Jim and told him what happened. He was a jerk about it all, but said he would look at it - seeing as I had only had the vehicle not even 48 hours when I called him. Only 24 hours when it broke down. He said the only problem was that I ran it out of gas. That was a hint there was something wrong, but it didn't click in my head yet. He tried to charge me $60 bucks to tow it home, when he just added gas and drove it.
I have had non-stop problems with this vehicle. I had to get all new tires, a new balljoint, new windshield wipers, and new blinkers JUST for it to pass inspection! I didn't complain about that. Just did it. I told him I wasn't happy but he wouldn't give me my money back so I just settled.
This week, the week of October 24th (just 19 days after I bought the car) I took the car into One Stop Muffler and Brake in Park Hills. Dennis (the younger one) was very helpful and gave me a tuneup and a few other things for $100. I paid him that. Then he said there were TONS of other things wrong with it, which I knew. Because I had been driving it (it died at every stop).
Alltogether, over a four day period, I racked up a $500 dollar bill to One Stop. Jim said he would credit it to my account, so I didn't freak out about it too much.
This morning, One Stop told me that it would be another $400 dollars to replace the head because JIM had put a 1986 head on a 1995 Cavalier. Not to mention the 1986 head was for a 2.0 engine and mine was a 2.2 engine.
I called Jim and he cussed me out. Did I mention that he JB Welded the whole intake, care railing, fuel injectors, and head? As well as drilling holes in the intake. It was all rigged up.
So I ran up a $900 bill at One Stop and then JIM refused to pay ANYTHING, help me pay anything, or CREDIT me anything. I'm so mad. I HAVE TWO CHILDREN to take care of, he KNEW THIS and he did this to me!
Jim has SIX children by FIVE different women, he doesn't pay child support on any of them. He also has another child on the way by the girl (she's only 17) that had his last baby. I want him to be put in JAIL, personally, but this is the next best thing I guess. I can't do much about it, I just want everyone to be warned!
