Nearly 14 years ago I applied for child support for my son and because of complications and just the hectic pace of this life, I was working 2 jobs to support ourselves, plus recovering from shameful physical and mental abusive from my son's father. I let it go until my son was about 10 yrs. Old.
Child support enforcement made me reapply, which I did. I sat in a small cramped office brimmming with people from across the border. Some of them crying others just angry. I sat and observed how we were treated like cattle. Fill out this form, take it to this window, sit there. Get up and move to another room. It was quite humiliating to say the least.
Not to mention time consuming seeing that I lost money again that day missing work to complete this process for the second time.
I then waited and waited with no response for about 12 months. When I finally did receive a reply they stated my case was closed due to non-compliance!
The first time I applied I had brought a picture of the man this last known employer, scars moles, realtives ssn# childhood school records. I believe I did all but lead them to his door...
I don't understand why such a large organization needs more than a ssn# because that is all I needed yesterday to look this creep up and find he has been living in Midland, Tx.
It may be the fact that we weren't married and paternity had not been established and it may have been too much work for thier department etc.
The child support division of the department of economic security I believe to be inept and corrupt. I knew of a woman, for years her former husband was paying his whooping $300 a mo. Child support payment and because she had been collecting benefits for her children prior to the final determination of support she received sometimes only $20 a month from them.
There has got to be an improvement in this system.
