Alore Skin Care
Consumer Report

I was also a victim of the Alore and Lorelia marketing campaign. On AUG 29 I followed an ad to the "Trial Offer" for both TryAlore.com and MyLorelia.com sites and opted to pay the shipping charges on both products for the trial offers amounting to USD$5.97 and USD$2.99 charged to my MasterCard credit card respectively. (Since I live in Canada this came out to CDN$6.46 and CDN$3.23 charged to my MC)

Since receiving the products yesterday (SEP 11) I decided to do some research online (before using them) and came across all these scam warnings about these products. I too was under the impression that this was a one time cost for a trial of the product. As others, I didn't see any indication that I was to be enrolled in an auto-ship program with recurring costs. This couldn't be about the web sit that I used, could it?

So I decided to call the company today (SEP 12) to inquire whether I had been automatically enrolled on auto-ship for their products. I called Alore at 877-745-0948 (the number on my MC statement next to the charge) and spoke with a lady named Amanda K. After looking up my information she confirmed that indeed I was on the auto-ship. I immediately told her that I had no desire to be re-purchasing the product, that I only wanted to try it, hence my purchase of the 'Trial Offer."

Amanda then started to offer discounts and ramble on as I tried to cut her off to no avail, until I repeatedly started saying "please stop talking and listen..." (while in conversation with her I kept my tone pleasant).

Once she stopped and listened I explained to her that I did not want any more of the product at this time and that I didn't want any further charges on my MC. I also explained that I understood that I would need a "Cancellation Number" to provide to my credit card provider to ensure that no more charges go through.

Amanda provided me with a Cancellation Number for my "Alore" contract. I then inquired with her if they had any affiliation with "Lorelia" or if I would have to contact them separately. She advised that they have "... Access to their database" (Really! Go figure). I Asked if it would be possible for me to get a Cancellation Number for my "Lorelia" contract as well? No problem, got one for that as well.

[I should mention that I did check my MasterCard account online before making the call to ensure that there hadn't been any further charges (although the statements online are a day behind).]

So before I said my goodbyes to Amanda I recapped with her that "My orders are cancelled and my MC credit card will not be charged again for either product." "That's correct, " she advised me. I thanked her for her time and said goodbye.

I would like to say that I kept the conversation light and pleasant (even though I may have slipped in a bit of sarcasm).

I then contacted my credit card provider and explained the situation and provided them with the Cancellation Numbers and products. My provider did mention that they are getting a lot of complaints about these two companies. They thanked me for my diligence in acquiring the cancelation numbers before contacting them. I indicated that it was all due to the reading online about everyones troubles that they are having with these two companies, and that credit card providers were instructing their clients to contact the companies first to get these Cancellation Numbers.

My credit card privider mentioned that now they can dispute, on my behalf, any further charges with respect to these two companies that may come through and initiate contestment with the Cancellation Numbers provided.

Now, to be fair I must state that I didn't initially see any indication on their web site that I would be entered into an auto-ship program. However, going back to the "tryalore.com" site today I see a little "I agree to the Terms & Privacy" check box under the great big "Send Me My Order" link. This box requires checking before you can go any further (I don't recall having to to that when I placed my order). Also if you put your mouse over the word "Terms" you will find that it is a link to their Terms which actually do state that you will be enrolled in an auto-ship and be charged... Etc... Etc. (Here is a link to it http://tryalore.com/terms/terms.php)

Interestingly enough the "MyLorelia.com" web site Terms do not state that you will be enrolled in an auto-ship program.

I would like to thank ScamBook for this site, and everyone who posts here. You have saved me from getting scammed and potentially loosing money (hopefully). And, after reading all the posts here, and everywhere else, I don't even think that I will risk using the trial product that I have received.

Hopefully some (if not everyone) who were caught up in this scam will be successful in recooperating some of their losses.

I hope this post was informative and helpful.
