In 2012 was caught in the fire doors with lights turned off on the car deck on the Newcastle - Holland ferry. My wheelchair was crushed along with me getting oil on my clothing and skin along with bruising to start my holiday. Was offered masking tape to repair my wheelchair. Was offered free food and alcohol which was of no use to myself as I am diabetic and tea-total and was so upset I could not eat anyway. Captain and officer checked the fire doors and said there was no problem with the fire doors! Was offered a paltry 15percent of which I refused so it was then upped to 25 percent. Now it is 2013 and once again I get ripped off as husband and I needed to change our sailing date back to the uk by one week, our discount could not be used at all and it has cost us an extra £92 and being off season it is a. Tad too high methinks plus I had to buy another wheelchair which are not cheap. Be warned fellow travellers and fly instead as DFDS are. A very expensive way to travel. Pity DFDS did not know my husband and I worked in the Norwegian merchant navy and the events of last year are still haunting me! Being out of pocket on a pension and ticket change involved costs of a mobile phone call listening to which button to press etc etc and wait for an agent to pick up the phone did not help matters either. They look after shareholders but why not care for clients as well? I have numerous emails between DFDS and myself but contacting them does not help, so fellow travellers be warned.
