My parents 91yrs / 87ys purchased a Walmart money card as a visa debit card at Walmart putting $221.55 on it for the sole purpose of getting Direct TV in their home. They purchased this card by direction of DirectV because they pay cash for everything and do not own a credit card or a debit card. I have to talk on the phone for them because my father can not hear on the phone and my mother has the first stages of dementia and gets confused easily I am their POA / POAH. This turned out to be a 2 day nightmare Direct TV after 3 hours of conversation on 7/11 A.M. And directing them to go get the money card and then call back to complete the installation order, which they did. Then tells me they can not except the Walmart money card because it is not affiliated with a bank and then wanted my debit card numbers as well. (What is GE Capital Bank)? I told Direct TV that is not gona work, my father does not want me paying his bills he wants his bill mailed to him and he will send a paper check in each month. A long drawn out debate went on for hours between me and at least three or four more Direct TV employees. I told them I would take the $ off the Walmart money card tomorrow, put it in my checking account, let DT use my debit 1 time to set up service for Dad and then send him paper bills after that. NEXT day I go to the bank to take the money from the card and deposit it to my account and the bank could not do it they sent me back to Walmart. Walmart said there was NO money on the card. Myself and the store manager called GE Capital they would not talk to me without my fathers approval so again hang up go home tell dad, dial GE Capital, phone on speaker so they can hear me telling dad they have to have his approval to discuss this card with me. Approval given there is no money on the card even though the record for GE says there is $221.55 on the card they tell me. They say Direct TV has a hold on the money, yesterday Direct told me they released it. Then GE Capital says they cannot release anything until the 23rd. THIS IS A DOWN RIGHT RIP OFF OF SENIOR CITIZENS, NOTHING LIKE PASSING THE BUCK AND KEEPING THEM CONFUSED MY father brought in green back CASH and paid $3.00 on top of that to buy the card and now they want to play pickle in the middle with his money. Also when they do release the money that's another $3.00 charge to get his money back FOR REAL!!! COME ON WALMART I held Walmart to a higher standard then GE CAPITAL I PERSONAL HAVE BEEN SWINDLED BY THEM AND STEP SIDE TUBS OUT OF NASHVILLE. I will sum this up by saying we will not go away or be satisfied until my 91 yr. Old fathers money is return in whole and we will never deal with GE Capital again EVERYONE PLEASE BE CAREFUL ASK 1000 QUESTION AND BE SURE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE YOU TURN LOOSE OF ANY MONEY TO WALMART OR GE CAPITAL BANK. Maybe Walmart should train their employees on what card goes for what since these cards do serve certain purposes. I am so disgusted with these companies and the rhetoric I will drive 25 miles just to shop somewhere else. Rip off artists.
