On November 24 we took residence at 535 Brookwood Point Place. On Dec 16 at 5:13am I heard loud barking from the apartment next door and then scratching on my door as I went to open the door the dog ran off. I noticed that my cats ran off under the bed. Later that day when i came home from work I noticed my cats eye all swollen and protruding from his eye socket. I immediately called my vet and scheduled a appointment for Dec 17 upon arriving that day at my vet he had told me it was caused by stress and had to dilate and stain the cats eye to access the damage. On Dec 17 I notified Denise the property managers assistant and she said she would address the situation. On Dec 18 the same incident continued and noticed my cats eye had gotten worse and had to return to the vets once again. At this point my cat had to receive a pain injection and corneal drops to reduce the swelling. On Dec 18 I notified the property manager again and explained the severity of the situation from the vets visit. On Dec 21 the situation with the barking of the neighbors dog continues on and I had to return to the vets because my cats eye showed no signs of healing. On Dec 21 i knocked on my neighbors door to resolve this situation because the barking continued leading me to believe the property manager had not addressed the situation with my neighbors. I know have a cat who has been damaged from this stress and nuisance and on medication for the rest of his life due to the lack of property management holding these people accountable for their actions. On Dec 23 we contacted property management again and still no resolution has come forth. At this point I believe i need to start looking for a new place of residence for the safety and well being of my cats. On Dec 27 I noticed my other cat shaking and throwing up and having diarrhea from the noise and stress going from the continuous barking from my neighbors. That day i had to leave work early to take my other cat to the vets to have him diagnosed. The vet gave my cat a Cerenia injection and a proviable kit to regulate his diarrhea. Once again property management was notified and failed to correct this situation and now my determination to find new residence has become a priority for the health and well being of my cats. On Dec 27 I once again decide to knock on my neighbors door to resolve this matter knowing they were home but they would not answer. On Jan 30 I returned to the vets for follow up visits on both my cats and was advised that i need to destress the cats to prevent further damage. On Feb 14 I decided to terminate my lease with 535 Brookwood and move on to a more safe and healthier environment for myself and my cats. Myself being a epileptic and having cerebral palsy the stress from having my cats being damaged and the statutory nuisance from the neighbors dog caused me to have a grand mal seizure causing me to be sick for almost a week. On Feb 18 I once again notified the apartment management of the continuous barking but by this point I'm totally frustrated with the lack of respect and compassion they show towards their tenants. At this point I finally found a new resident to move into but it's in the process of being built and should take at least 2 months before completion. At this point and time I started to research my lease agreement and found a clause in the Animal Addendum paragraphs 11 through 14 stating that all animals must be kept on a leash and that management must immediately and permanently remove any animal that causes statutory nuisance from the premises if they receive a reasonable complaint. According to their agreement this stipulation was never followed through with my neighbors. According to the South Carolina Laws I'm entitled to come home from work to a relaxing stress free environment which is not the case here. I'm baffled and stressed out to the point of not knowing what rights I've as a tenant. I'm afraid of having another seizure from all this stress and nuisance I've been going through for the last five months. Please help me resolve this issue. I'm just wanting to be reimbursed for my vet costs that I feel I'm entitled to from property management breaching their own agreement and not following through with what's stipulated in their agreement. On May 19 @ 11:30am I contacted Jason Leitner about this situation and had to leave a voicemail. On May 19 I received a call back from Jason Leitner and he replied that he would follow up with property management. On May 20 I received a call from Jason Leitner stating that they were not responsible for paying any vet bills or were they liable for the cats getting stressed out. On May 23 I called Jason Leitners boss Jackie Melnick with whom I left a message for. On May 23 I received a call from Jackie Melnick who stated that they would not pay any such bills and that she would call me back after speaking with Jason Leitner. On May 24 I've not received any type of correspondence from MAA which is the property development for 535 Brookwood. I really don't feel I'm asking for a whole lot just reimbursement of $670.00 for my out of pocket costs for the vet bills I incurred due to lack of property management enforcing their own regulations. Again on June 12 I had to rush my cat to the vet again for vomiting and a irregular heartbeat which is all stress related from 535 Brookwood. I've spoken to two of your employees Jason Leitner and his boss Jackie Melnick who seem to take this as a joke but I don't find this amusing at all. They feel they're not responsible at all for this serious matter. Whether it's a human or animal it's still my family and i take it very very seriously and they should be ashamed of themselves for their behavior in this matter. I truly believe if you're going to have the responsibility of being a boss and having rules and policies in your contract then you should follow through with making sure they're enforced. I now have a cat who is emotionally and physically damaged for the rest of his LIFE!!! Funny??? I think not!!! On top of their lease agreement it's clearly stated as such: Please note: We consider animals a serious responsibility and a risk to each resident in the dwelling. If you do not control and care for your animal, you'll be held liable if it causes any damage or disturbs any residents.
