Jack Smith
Consumer Report

My financial situation isn't the finest, and this doesn't help.
I received a call from one Jack Smith, number (202) 808-3677, saying I have been approved for a grant of $8,400. Apparently I’ve been a good citizen, not late on taxes, no debt, etc. Naïve, I went along with it, foreseeing myself repaying everyone I needed to, with enough left over to have for myself. I did not listen to the warnings, gung-ho about the opportunity. The first 200 dollars I sent ($220 in total), supposedly for a charity, should have been the end of it, and they would transfer the funds, with the bank supposedly calling me soon. I waited a week’s time, with no word on anything, and called back. Now the story is I had to send another $500 for an “application fee, ” which, at first, I wasn’t going to do, since I had insufficient funds.
Time passes, a month to be exact, and I get a call from them. I figured it would have been the end after I said no, and that it truly was a scam, but I thought “how could it be scam if they persist on calling after a month? ” I could not provide $500, but in desperation I requested the “fee” be reduced to $300 ($310 in total), which is all I could provide.
I put through the “final payment, ” and I waited anxiously for the transfer that never happened. Called Jack to see what happened, and he said that it was a “technical difficulty, ” and would do the transfer process again. He added that the bank would call me, which never happened, so I requested the number, which he provided, (202) 470-1406. I call them, and they tell me to call the supervisor, Alison Floyd, number (202) 470-1403. I talk to her, and tell her what happened, and she told me the same thing Jack did: “the bank should call me.” I waited and waited, checked my account, nothing happened.
So I called Alison, never picks up. Called the bank, and after many attempts, I reach them, and I explain nothing has happened, and they tell me the bank has closed for the day, and the HANG UP on me. So finally I call Jack, and when I start explaining the circumstances, he says “this is not Jack, you have the wrong number” and hangs up. Call back, no answer for a while, then talk to him again, re-explaining the circumstances, and he says that I'm not in the records. So I provide two confirmation numbers, both of which he provided me, and tells me that neither of them exist.
I was gullible, naïve, headstrong, seeing a great opportunity, and I was greatly deceived.
