IGEA Life Sciences Sidney
Consumer Report

Like so many others here, we've been scammed by Igea Life Sciences.

Back in February my wife responded to a newspaper ad and ordered a supply of "Skin Physics Dragon's Blood". She has used most of it but would not bother with it again.

Today a registered parcel arrived with another three jars of the product and an invoice for $173.96. I signed for it at the door but my wife wondered what it was because she had not ordered anything.

She contacted Igea and was told that she had been given "free membership" in the Skin Physics Beauty Club and was automatically receiving "replenishment" every 90 days.

When she protested that she had not ordered the product and did not want it, she was told she was advised when she placed the original order that further product would be sent if she had not resigned in the meantime from the "club".

My wife told Igea that she had definitely not been advised about this and would never have agreed to it. She asked again for instructions on how to return the product. The woman taking the call, "Katie", refused to provide a "returns authorisation number" and said that my wife could “do what she wanted to” with the product but that it had already been charged to her credit account and could not be returned.

My wife immediately contacted the bank and found that fortunately the charge had not yet gone through so she explained the situation and cancelled the credit card.

She emailed Igea and again asked how to return the product. She was told she must have been advised of the conditions when she placed her first order because all their calls are "scripted". Igea also stated it was the customer's "responsibility" to read the invoice, but the only mention of this rort is in very small print on the back of the invoice at the bottom of the page.

We have advised Igea that this is an unsatisfactory response and we wish to return the goods, but at no postage or other cost to us.

So we'll wait and see... But how come Fair Trading NSW has let this go on for so long? Are they utterly useless?
