Consumer Report

Walmart money card is using a "verification of identity" system that is faulty, and it's the same system both by phone as well as online when applying for a FREE card after losing money-$3.00/card by phone. The last questions do NOT apply to the applicant, none of the "answer choices" apply, and even if the choice "none of the above" is selected, the applicant is denied a FREE money card. On the phone, the same happened to me May 14 when I purchased a money card for $3.00 and called the 1-877... Number to activate the card. I was advised today to use up the balance of the money on the temporary card because I failed to identify myself. (The last questions did not apply to me.

The last series of questions dealt with the registration of certain cars at an address that I did not select from the preceding questions. Vis-a-vis, my mother's address. How am I to know what vehicles are registered at someone else's address even if the person IS my mother? I never chose her address as a residence for myself! I am from California. When I reported this incident to Walmart's customer service, I was told that I could either buy another card, or go online and get a FREE card. Both of these are INCONVENIENCES, and to pay for another card truly is NOT an option and that's where this "verification" system appears to be "fraudlent" and needs to be stopped—immediately..

I tried applying for a FREE card again online. It failed the first time as it did by phone, and I called Walmart customer service about the line of questions that their "verification" system issues out. The questions call for "guessing, " and that is wrong and needs to be dealt with. Then, the customer service person said: "I don't have the answers to the questions, " as if I were asking him/her to give me the correct answers. I have every correct answer about myself if I am asked questions that pertain to me, or my life. I tried again, and I was asked the right questions, and my request went through. However, I was not able to print it. I wrote it down.
