We received a call presumably from a grandchild that he was involved in an accident and he was detained by police. He then handed the phone to his attorney. The attorney proceeded to give details of the accident, the people involved and there condition. He then explained that the other party was from out of country and were willing to settle out of court pending there medical expenses. We were instructed to send $1900.00 and all charges would be dropped. After wiring the money the attorney called back and confirmed the transaction and the charges were dropped. He then requested an additional $1860.00 to finalize his release from detention. After that money was sent the attorney again called back and confirmed that the grandchild was released and left quickly without buttoning up paperwork. We were asked to contact the grandchild. The attorney then called back again to confirm that the grandchild was OK. We then learned that the grandchild was never in an accident and he had been at work all day.
The information we have is the phone number of the firm which the attorney worked 212-539-0448 ext. 2496. The attorney did identify himself with a full name but I was not able to get written down.
The money was sent via Moneygram from a local CVS drugstore to Rosa Javier in Fofua, Dominican Republic. Moneygram Has been contacted of this incident and has my consent to release the information to any investigative personnel. This involves my 76 year old mother and myself.
