We hired this contractor to paint our house. We have him a $1,000 deposit check for materials which he cashed immediately.
A few days later he arrived to power-wash our house. After that he never came back.
After a month or so we finally just asked for our deposit back so we could hire someone else to paint our house.
It's been six months and he still hasn't returned one cent. We were in constant communication and he kept telling us he was sending us money or payments. Never happened.
Throughout this entire time he has continued to advertise his painting (and hauling & delivery) services on Craigslist, and has ever created a couple of Facebook pages.
I also found that he has done this to at least a couple of other people, including a Church!
We can't take legal action because we don't have a physical address for him, which was our big mistake. $1,000 Lesson learned.
