As many have already noted, these people with Indian accents call saying the government is giving out 200$ in gas vouchers. I kept waiting for the catch, and it didn't come, until they asked me for my checking account number (they knew my name, address, and routing number). I said I didn't want to give it out, so the supervisor came on the phone say how secure it would all be and they need it for the tracking numbers for the vouchers—and I reluctantly and stupidly gave it to them.
Then they said they would also be sending me a calling card, and I instantly told them I wanted nothing to do with it (I never told them directly I wanted the vouchers either, since I was waiting for the catch).
They said in order to cancel I had to go through a voice automated system that required me to go through a process of saying yes a number of times, and then saying no. They calmly explained to me a few times how to complete the procedure; it ended up not really going how they said it would, so as a result I believe I signed up for things when I was told I was cancelling them.
I finally spoke to a real person who asked if I wanted to cancel and I said yes. He gave me a cancellation number, and three toll free numbers of the companies that I had signed on with (again as part of the process to cancel something that I was never told about and was made to sign up for in order to cancel it).
I was assured it was cancelled but I was charged 3.95 twice, plus 119, taken out of my checking account. I call back and angrily demanded it all be cancelled and that I be refunded. They said I will get a refund in the mail (though the 3.95 charges are not refundable because of S&H).
I, of course, have my doubts that things were actually cancelled (depsite my having two cancellation numbers!) and that I will be refunded for something I did not intend to sign up for.
