Tails of Courage
Very sick puppies adopted and overwhelming medical bills

In November we lost our dog of 16 years to congestive heart failure. Our home was empty so we decided to adopt two puppies. We found Matice & Essie (now Nora & Bella) on Petfinder.com who were listed through Tails of Courage. We were told they were owner turn ins and were in good health. We made a deposit of $100 on 11/27, and then officially adopted the puppies at the PetSmart in Norwalk, CT on 12/2 with a final payment of $800. They were very dirty, so we immediately had them groomed. I thought there heart rate was a bit high, so they were seen by the vet on Monday evening. Everything seemed to be fine except Bella slept alot and they both had diarrhea. On 12/6, Bella began vomiting and both dogs were seen again by the vet - Bella in the afternoon & both dogs in the evening. They had their puppy exams and Bella received anti-diarrhea & naseau injections along with fluid injected under her skin to keep her hydrated. On 12/7, both dogs were seen again & they were diagnosed with coccacidia (sp?). They were placed on Albon but since Bella was still vomiting and having diarrhea, she had to be hospitalized for two days in order to fight the parasite. After many phone calls, I found out from the woman who rescued them that they had roundworms and received four treatments of strongind (sp?) which they should only have received three and then tested again for worms.instead, they were given a fourth treatment and they were never tested for worms or parasites. If they had, the shelter would have had to treat them before they could release them for adoption.instead, they stated that they were "healthy" and passed the buck on to us. We are $2,357.42 in debt for medical bills not including the $800 we paid for them which totals $3,157.42. We contacted them and Christan and Dave both stated "they would help with the medical bills": I was told to fax the medical bills to Christan - it took three times to finally be given the corect fax number. Now they haven't contacted us to tell us how they are going to help, how the puppies are doing nor are they returning my phone calls. I am unable to pay my mortgage, utility bills and I was left with $20 to feed three people and two dogs until my next paycheck. If I do not hear from them soon, I am going to have to seek legal action.
