Aol cancel problem telemarket-style, phone harrasment trying to convince me to keep ripoff service - I refused

I originally used AOL to get access to internet in order to repair my MSN account. I called & cancelled at end of month & was charged 23.90 anyway. I called and tried to cancel again and was convinced to continue using AOL, for time I had paid, even though I diddnt need it and that I should cancel by the 10th because they process payments between 12th & 15th or something.

So I called sometime after 1st week in january -I think it was the ninth-they say it was the 10th, and I told rep that I wanted to cancel & went thru the whole telemarket-style cancellation process of phone harrasment trying to convince me to keep membership - I refused.

I was told my membership was cancelled and that my card shouldnt be charged. On jan 12th my credit card was charged again, so I called again and was told that my account had indeed been cancelled but not in time to avoid charge. I was not offered a refund, or any form of compensation, - TAKE 23.90 for UNREQUESTED services & offer me NOTHING IN RETURN?!!!:{ -not even an unfortunate apology.

-HOW can they charge your card 2 days after a cancelled transaction? You would think that 2 days would be plenty of time to process a cancellation request in this age of multi - Ghz computers and data storage capability. (We know it is!:))&Why could they not refund me since I didnt want service and DONT intend to USE it (I couldnt even if wanted to now, Im no longer a member - just a CREDIT CARD NUMBER!!!)
