Comcast Cares? Really? - digital cable service

A few months ago, I believe it was in January Comcast started making the switch to All Digital. This meant that for televisions that you used to be able to connect directly with the wall outlett would now need a new "device". So, since I have an old tv that I watch the news on in the morning while getting ready for work, I ordered this new super fantastic helpful digital device. And, lo and behold — it worked!

For a little while.

Then, on a fairly regular basis I would get frozen screens, pixaliated pictures, or, the best, an error message saying "we have detected an interruption in your service, please call". So I would call. And after way too much time on the phone with the "support" person trying to upsell the new Xfinity, the problem would be resolved.

For a little while.

This went on for a month or so until 3 weeks ago. All of a sudden I lost all of my local programming. The cable channels all still worked fine but no local programming... So I called. And during EVERY call I was asked to "check the connections" which were obviously working since I had SOME channels but the "helpful" support person just wouldn't listen - they were too busy apologizing for the inconvenience I guess.

Finally, through Twitter, I connected with a support tech in Philadelphia who really tried to help. He even went so far as to order a new DTA for me. It arrived last night. So happy I'd be able to see what the weather and traffic would be like the next morning I went through the online activation process. The screens said it could take up to an hour, and I had things to do so no biggie.

Two and a half hours later, STILL NOTHING. Now, this device won't even activate and I had NO Programming at all. And, while I was in online chat with Comcast support ALL of my services were cut off - internet, cable tv and phone. My modem just went DEAD.

I'm going on a week vacation (unrelated but now needed more than ever) and will research the alternatives to Comcast while I have some down time... This is ridiculous for what we pay.
