My wife signed up for a 14-day "free trial" with ancestry.com. She tried it for a few days then forgot about it. Immediately after the free trial, she was charged $299 for an annual membership.
She immediately called to cancel and they said it was too late. They did not send a reminder. The visible print stated it would be a $24/month service. However, the fine print below states it will be charged for a full year at a time and once they charge you then no refunds are given. VERY DECEPTIVE!
Even if I liked the product, I would never usea company that uses such deceptive practices. I would guess they make a lot more money ripping people off after signing up for a free trial than the customers who legitimately want to use the product.
I am going to contest the charge on my credit card and see if I can get anywhere with that.
