January 26th my computer told me there were critical errors. Couldn't find my hard drive, No RAM, corrupted hard drive files, etc... I was then informed if I bought the FULL VERSION of AVG's software that the problems could be fixed. Price: $69.99.
Instead, I went to target and bought program. I was able to dowload and access my computer again. I went to add/remove programs and started looking at the dates of when stuff was downloaded. During this time I continued to get error messages on the bottom right of my screen (the same ones as above). I found this "AVG Free" that was downloaded on January 6th. I didn't dowload it nor had I ever heard of it before yesterday.
I uninstalled AVG's "FREE" software and my computer works perfectly again! The really disturbing thing is that between the 6th and yesterday, this software hijacked my e-mail and sent links to EVERY ONE of my contacts from me! I am afraid that if anyone opened these links, that they just downloaded AVG's software and will now experience the same problems I had.
To intentionally install a virus on someone's computer, and then try to charge them to fix it, is not just unethical, but ILLEGAL!!!
BEWARE this company and anything to do with them. I hope law enforcement investigates them. I spent $50 and four hours fixing the problem they INTENTIONALLY inflicted upon me. Sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company. Plus, if you post a competitors name more than likely they will show up on search engines as a Rip-off! - - your comments on this policy are welcome.
