Quickbooks Slamming of Customer Help Service Plan

Have used QuickBooks for over a decade. Was running Intuit's QuickBooks Pro which was just fine, meeting all my needs. Received notification that previously free email capability of sending invoices thru program would be deactivated as of 5/31 if I did not upgrade to Quickbooks 2010. THAT IN ITSELF IS A RIPPOFF, for there is nothing in the newer versions that made it worth purchasing.

RIPPOFF NUMBER TWO is that you can't just upgrade with a less expensive upgrade program, you have to purchase the full price NEW version. Was available via internet stores at substantial savings over Intuit's "special offer" that accompanied their notice.

If these were not rippoffs enough, had a further issue (the real issue). Upon installing, you have to obtain a code from Intuit to activate the product. Normally, automatically done via internet, but internet was down, so program prompted me to directly phone Intuit for the code. After extensive time and effort, got to a representative that seemed confused as to why I was even calling. The same representative insisted that I provide a credit card number "in order to activate the (30) day free customer support" that I would receive for having purchased and installed the program. LET ME BE CLEAR HERE: I balked at why I would need to provide a credit card at all and CLEARLY stated that I DID NOT want to purchase ANY customer support program; and repeated that statement several times throughout the process. I was assured that there would be NO CHARGE to my credit card. They charge a whopping $39 PER MONTH/$468 PER YEAR for the privlege of calling them with questions about the program. Won't even go into how useless they were one time in past, when I had a lost data issue. I finally broke down and provided the credit card number just to get off the phone.

Sure enough, next credit card statement comes, and can you believe it, there is a charge for $39 to my account. I called customer service and will say the representative of foreign descent (read: hard to understand) was helpful - he removed me from the service and stated that a refund would be credited to my account. He even emailed confirmations to that effect. That is all well and good, but when I explained the above to him about SPECIFICALLY stating to original contact that I did not want their customer help program, he did not offer any reason why they would have done that, why they would have requested a credit card number, nor seemed at all concerned or suprised.

Now you should realize that I'm don't normally file complaints, and would not have an issue if there were ANY way this could have occurred by mistake. The original contact understood me quite well and assured me that I was not making a purchase. This is a simply a case of outright fraud.

Will update as to if an when refund is shown on my credit card statement.
