The VISA monthly withdrawals began after I had contacted them for a free routine check on my credit rating. I didn't catch them until today. I confused these with a similar program that I had bought on a one-time purchase. I asked to have the payments canceled. The person answering said it had been done already almost a month ago. She also said if any further payments were received she would credit them back to VISA. I asked for a reference number which VISA insisted on having before stopping the payments. I was given one and immediately passed it on to CIBC VISA by phone.
Without asking for it I also received an email with a longer cancellation confirmation number. The date of the withdrawals up to now has been on the 23rd of the month. If that date passes with no withdrawal I will call it quits.
