Verizon North DSL internet access
Verizon DSL internet access. Slow connection, frequently cut off, greed, crappy service, rip-off

I subscribed for Verizon DSL service with Verizon as my ISP also. They initiated the service early last June. The speed and reliability was very good. (This is in Northern Indiana)

About 12 days ago, the service quickly took a dump. VERY slow connection speeds, frequently cut off completely. I now have service that's most times even slower and considerably less reliable than my previous dial-up connection. To top it off, my dial-up modem now works at half speed (16-22K) because of the DSL capabilities enabled by Verizon. Some kind if inherent bottleneck caused by the DSL equipment.

Upon contacting Verizon, I found they have three entities: Verizon 'Phone division, Verizon ISP division, and Verizon DSL division. These three tend to blame each other, and the 'Phone division doesn't like the impedence on my house wiring. (Blaming me) I can't get a knowledgeable answer as to what resistance is acceptable (by the 'phones, which must be hooked up through filters) for the DSL function to function properly. All telephones DO provide a small load on the line, as do some caller I.D.S.initially, my 'phones were not an issue with the quality of service (when it ran well); but now Verizon is making an issue of the "'phones on the circuit".

During one conversation with a rare tech that seemed knowledgeable, I was told "my trunk line is overloaded" (user oversubscribed) and this'll have to be corrected to restore normal service. This would indicate that Verizon, in their greed, simply connected more customers than their equipment would support. This really pisses me off, as initially my service was very good, indicating the late comers and EVERYONE else are now getting crappy service.

Today Verizon offered a 30% discount from now to Jan. 1, '02 to compensate for the problems. This'll amount to about one month free.initially I was told the problem would be corrected by new equipment arriving around Oct. 16; today they were uncertain as to whether an improvement will be made before the first of the year. If the connection issue is sucessfully addressed by the end of this month, I told the individual from the billing department the 30% discount 'till 1-1-02 would suffice. However... If Verizon thinks I'm going to pay 70% of the invoice between now and Jan. 1 if the service isn't corrected by then, they've got a problem!

Coming to a location in Northern Indiana: VERIZON WARS! (maybe)
