Had a friend purchase a Sony card reader for me during his lunch break. When he returned to work i opened the box to find an old card reader that wasn't even Sony branded, and had large amounts of dust in the slots.
The box did not have a repackaged or an opened sticker on it, my friend specifically looked for a package without the sticker as he saw other boxes with the sticker—falsely assuming the package was never opened.
Luckily my friend had purchased this as a gift and i received a gift receipt with it. I return to the offending fry's..
I simply stated I found this old card reader in place of what is supposed to be a new one. The employee looks over the card reader and indicates it's not Sony branded and he also indicates that there is no sticker stating the product has been opened, and cannot be returned. I kindly explain to him that he is correct, which is why I returned to the store. I plead and he refuses yet again. I begin to get aggravated and he gets me the manager.
Now the manager comes and says the same things as the other guy and also states that the packaging tape used to seal the boxes is how they get them from the factory. I doubt it, anyone and their mother has packaging tape and could easily return their POS card reader in a "sealed" box. The fry's guy that did the return probably saw it was "sealed" and never bothered to open or check it and threw it back on the shelf.
Nevertheless after a few more moments of deliberation she has someone fetch me another reader and exchanges the crap reader for an "opened" (w / sticker) one.
I'm never shopping at Fry's again.
