America On Line
Aol Invalid charges ripoff fraud business charging my credit card twice!

In October 25 I spoke with a service representative at AOL, because in checking my statements from the bank I realize that I was being charged double for the internet service, the amount being charged twice was $23.90 a month, for almost a year.

# 1) they accept to credit our account for 3 months only and # 2) they informed us that somebody other than us was using our account.

In talking with this person (Kathy) she said that some one using my husband name had opened another account with them. Twice already American had notified us on line that some body had invaded my husband account and America On Line and had even closed my husband account because the way the account was being used by this other person. He was instructed to change his screen name and pass word, but we were not notified of this second account being opened in his name, in any case the rep. At AOL said that they could not reimburse us for the full amount but they would give credit for the last three months of charges on the second account and would discontinue it, how ever what happened is that AOL took it on to themselves to change the billing system from monthly Of $23.90 to hourly with the result that in the January's bank statement there was a charge for $976. Which was totally invalid. I reported this charge to the bank and It is in the process of being investigated, I am requesting that America On Line provide proof to show that indeed it was my husband and not somebody else that initiated this change which is ridiculous, to think that after 5 years of paying $23.90 a month suddenly we would request to pay almost a thousand dollars for the same service. There have been no responce from AOL.

I have spoken of this problem with various AOL reps to whom I have asked to send an email verifying the conversations. I have been assured that it will be sent, so far I have not received any communication from them.

Only as recently as last Thursday Feb 6 while my husband was using the computer his connection was interrupted with a message that somebody had logged in with his name from another location I Immediately called AOL to request that this occurrence were investigated and all they said was just log back in and that will throw the other person out I request and investigation on their part to find out who the other person was, they transferred my call to the fraud department and again their solution was to just log back in.

Well, the problems continue and I dont know how this is going to be resolved.in Feb. 28 I received an email from AOL informing me that I was being disconnected for nonpayment, we spoke with JENNY at 7:35 Feb. 28 and she said that the charge of $742. Had been cleared (I didnt know any thing about this charge). After that I was transferred to Melanie who informed me that they had reinstated my account, We had previously choose the ($14.95 Bring your own provider) pricing plan now they had reinstated me at $23.90 again. When I remained her that my price plan was $14.95 she said yes OK. That was going to be the price beginning on 03/11/03, but from Feb. 28 until March 11 It would be charged at $23.90. AOL doesen't like customer to pay by check or money order for their service, they want to have acces to your credit card account to charge what ever price or charges they want.
