I ordered a pair of Merrel Chameleon Wrap Traveler shoes in size 11 last Friday (03OCT08). Finally today (Monday-06OCT08) I received word that they did not actually have the shoe in stock and would not for another week (Oct 13th).
Their email reads

Notice that they say "Please let us know if you would like to keep this order active." This implies I need to contact them to confirm the order still stands.
However the actual current status is "back ordered". Which implies they are intending to ship it to me in about a week.
They don't even specify if the back order is being shipped to them on that date or would be shipped to me on that date.
I also noticed that despite having pissed me off by wasting my time, they are surely pissing others off and wasting their time as well. This is because they have not fixed their website yet. You can still order this shoe from them not knowing that it's not actually in stock, and they'll send you an email 4 days later telling you it'll be another week. This is FALSE ADVERTISING!
Here is the letter I have written them in response to this outrage.
I am canceling my order.
Mostly because I can.
Partly because your website falsely advertised a product you did not have in stock despite your knowledge that the item is on back order.
Partly because I found that you have been pointed out as unreputable by several people on usacomplaints.com as displaying shoes you do not have in stock on your website.
Also, I see that people can still go on your website and order that same damn shoe you just admitted you don't have, and know you won't have until October 13th just like every other shoe store. This is false advertising and it seems like you are trying to trap people into buying it from you with a week's shipping time. You are wasting people's time; from an economic standpoint you are implicitly robbing people. Not to mention I still have to wait for my shoes.
Lastly because Amazon will ship it to me on the 13th of October with free 3 day shipping. Oh, and because if I ordered it from Amazon on a Friday, they'd ship it out by Saturday.
Now the recap.
I am canceling my order.

A Final Note; I'm not endorsing Amazon.com, I'm sure you could change that name in my letter to any other online retailer that sells shoes besides shoepeddlers.com
