Apparently my 12 year old daughter hit upon a Web site on October 27 that automatically dialed from our phone to a 900 hundred number and in the space of 6 seconds log on time managed to charge $34.95.
It shows on the telephone billing as a call ToFAQ900.com. That Web page makes pitiful disclaimers that they cannot identify who, what, or why their customers are charged.
I checked the system log files on the computer and found that it was dialed while my daughter was logged on to the computer by user 610.1. FR@cf9000. I tracked cf9000 to the following Web address: http://www.dialernet.com/
This company provides a dialer to unscrupulous web page owners which dials their 900 number system and gives the web page owners a cut on the proceeds. The following text from their web page pretty well encapsulates their business plan and philosophy:
"USA calls utilise an UNRESTRICTED international number that is not bound by the regulations that the FTC inflicts upon dialers using the 900 system."
