I too have been a victim of Dell's "wonderful" verifying service. My husband and I needed 2 new laptops. I went to Dell's site, got preapproved for $4,000. I then ordered our items for about $3600.2 days later I went to check our status and it said "canceled". So I called Dell and they said that I needed to be verified. No problem right? Wrong! I was sent over and gave them my SSN and Phone number was on hold for 2 minutes. They came back and said "I'm sorry Ma'am but you aren't verifying". They stated my account was on hold. I asked him what didn't verify. He couldn't tell me. He said i could still buy the products, but need to obtain financing elsewhere.
After I got off the phone I thought about things and got very upset, I personally work with loans on a daily basis and know there are ways to Identify a person. So I called a 2nd time.
In calling this 2nd time, I too noticed it stated that my limit was $4000, available $300 blah blah blah. I talked to a verification rep and spend 20 minutes on the phone with her. She said she couldn't tell me where I didn't verify because it would disclose their procedures. I said I wanted to talk to a supervisor and she replied that she could send me to one, but probably wouldn't get ahold of one and they couldn't overturn the decision. I stated that she could ask me questions about my credit report, verify me with my employer... Her response was anyone could have that information. (I'm banging my head against the wall at this time while still maintaining a professional tone). I asked what I should do she of course said i could still buy the product with different financing.
So then I went to www.bestbuy.com. I applied for a credit card they asked me some questions about my credit report and boom! I was approved. Unfortuneatly their systems aren't as good as Dell's.: (
Oh yeah I called a 3rd time to see if they were going to send me a letter and they couldn't tell me that... They are very script, that's for sure.
