I was looking at my checking account today and noticed that there was a pending charge from Netzero. I haven't used Netzero in over 10 years. We have had cable internet for 10 years. When I called Netzero, they told me the only way they could look me up was by my phone number (from 10 years ago), or my netzero email address (which I haven't had in over 10 years). Neither of which I could provide. Next, they said they could pull it up based on my check card number, which I wouldn't give them over the phone. They said they couldn't help me then.
So, I asked for a manager and spoke with an Allen (they said company policy wouldn't allow them to give me their last names) and once again was told they couldn't help me and I would have to dispute it with my bank. I understand the conept of privacy, but with them being a technology company, you would think they could look me up by name/address. I am going to go to my bank tomorrow (luckily I work for my bank) to start the dispute process, but I feel I am going to have to close out my bank accounts and reopen new ones. If I ever had to use dial up again, I certainly wouldn't go back to Netzero and will tell everyone I can to boycott any services offered by United Online.
