Charged a monthly membership fee of $39.95 without my authorization

This company advertised free information on a CD, for a shipping charge of $1.97. Although I did authorize the $1.97, I did not authorize them to charge $39.95 to my credit card. Their terms and conditions state that after a 14-day trial period, they will automatically charge a monthly fee of $39.95. However, this is a scam, since they are not authorized by anyone to charge that monthly fee. No one is allowed to automatically charge a monthly fee if it is not authorized specifically by the credit card holder. There are quite a few internet scams which seem to be getting by with this automatic billing.

I called to cancel the charges when they appeared on my online credit card statement, but BidFuel did not credit my account for the $39.95.
