Hidden Automatic Renewal Update Charges to Your Credit Card

In 2007 McAfee apparently changed their online renewal of their virus protection software. Hidden in the body of the end user agreement it states that they will automatically charge your credit card 30 days before your subscription expires without your knowledge of the amount they are charging.

When you download the current version it only asks you if you accept their terms and agreements even though the agreement states that it asks you if you accept their agreement and you accept their automatic renwal process. There was only ever one question, nothing stated the automatic renewal agreement as a seperate question.

Also, in the summer of 2007 they incorrectly charged our company credit card for charges not related to our account. When they charged the latest "renewal" fee it was to an employee's personal credit card not even to the company credit card! No where did it state that they retain credit card information in their files.

When I contacted McAfee yesterday (outsourced to India) they stated that clicking on the terms and agreement automatically enrolled us in the automatic renewal process.

He did cancel our agreement at my request and said it would take 1-3 billing cycles to receive our credit, he did provide me with a confirmation number.

This must be a frequently McAfee question/problem because they have a link on their website as to how to cancel this automatic renewal process.
