First let me start by saying I am very happy with the products I bought from Dell I have not had a problem with them at all.
I bought and financed a new Dell laptop and made all the payments on time until I lost my job in Nov. I had a tech support job that was outsourced to India, ironic I thought because that's where Dell Financial and tech support is outsourced to (I was not employed by Dell). I called Dell Financial Services to see if they had some kind of a hardship program or anything like that but after 25 minutes on hold and talking to a CSR that I could hardly understand I was informed that they had no such program and was disconnected.
The next statement that came my interest rate went up to 29.99% I called and was told that I had reported that I lost my job so I was now a high risk account. I found a new job about 8 months later and have been trying to get caught back up on all of my bills. I will be the first to admit that I had to miss a few payments and make a few late. I was getting calls from their collection department at the rate of at times 4 an hour on both my home and cell phone. I would always explain the situation I was in and ask for a hardship but was denied every time.
The excess fees are what is killing me now they charge $13.99 to make a payment on the phone that they are calling me for and they want the same to make a payment on the internet. The fees they have charged me have pushed me over the credit limit causing another fee of $39.00 and if I make a payment late its another $39.00 charge. The people that call for them are overseas and are very hard to understand and all that they seem able to do is read from a script in front of them. When I ask for a supervisor all they say is one is not available I have been put on hold and hung up on been treated rudely and when at last I was just about to get caught up I made 1 payment late that has now ended up costing me $400 of late and over the limit fees again.
Do your self a favor and if you need to buy a new computer get the money from someone else, anyone else a loan shark would be easier to work with than these people. I had no problems with any of my other accounts I had 4 other credit cards all of them entered me into a hardship program and helped me when I needed it Dell however saw a chance to make a few extra bucks and kick me when I was down.
Bottom line Dell Financial Services is a rip off I really hope that Congress does something about the excess fees these people charge. The damage has been done to me so if you have not used them DON'T!!!
