I been a cable user for 9 years for internet service. Unfortunately, with some changes the service has been almost as bad as dialup. Today, we got a AOL 9.0 Optimized CD in the mail. I dont know how many of these things I have tossed in my life, but something about it cought my eye regarding speeding up cable and DSL. It said No credit card required (First lie, and even the phone rep said it was required by federal law? Hey, Feds, go call them and see if they tell you the same thing, becasue if they do, I think our government needs to fine them a few million for making up such a stupid fib) Anyways, I hang up on the guy and think to myself, why not test it on my chase card? GOing to cancel it anyways so they wont be able to bill me if they try it illigally like in the past and like how I see they are now with all thse posts.
I install it (This was the second most stupid thing I did in my life, and will never do it again! FIrst most stupid thing was opening the box it came in, in the first place!) The CD packed my system with so much spyware, and optimize it? My god, I felt like I was on my old Commodore C64 using a 300 baud modem on dialup calling my friends BBS. It completely took over my system!!! Ha! So it thought! I was able to remove every little pices of infected AOL sludge that got installed, then called AOL 20 miutes lator. This call got so un-amusing, it wasnt funny.
I call AOL, and get some Indian dude that sounded like he got his degree in a 7-11 pushing AOL as if it was his lifes blood. He kept telling me how 9.0 will speed my cable up, and it was made specifically for me, and that I should try doing this or that. I dont want it for this or that, I wanted it to speed my system up like it says, and get by the bottleneck Sprint is causing (Ill probably end up writing about Sprint one day too, but not now) I already looked at my ports and saw that their so called optimization was basically what all those fast downloaders do, using multiple ports. Since my cable company regulates them, AOL wont work.
This is now 30 minutes into the call, I tell the guy I dont want the service, cancel it. He outright refuses to cancel the account, unless I try installing more of these special features and where to get them. He started praising AOL again! I could have sworn it sounded like he was slapping a AOL package against his head and praying to the thing!
I then told him I was recodring the call, I am telling him to Cancel the account now, I dont want it, I dont want the 2 months free trial, I am sick of AOls praise, and sick talking to you! (The indian dude with AOL imprinted on his forhead)
45 minutes into this argument. Not even an hour, and youd think it be bad trying to cancel in 2 months before the trial was up? Im trying to cancel after only 5 minutes of its use and more hes praising the more time goes by. Heck, I wouldnt be suprised if he sat there the entire 2 months!
I then decide to hang up on him and call Chase to cancel the card before AOL tried megabilling it. (Wait till you see the story on that if you click the link above) The we wont bill you and card only being used as reference is a joke. Anyways, if you get this huge package, DONT OPEN IT! A virus is safer then installing that crap! Victom Beware!
