Complaint / Review
AOL (America Online)
Ripoff Jacksonville Florida

I signed up for 1000 free hours/45 days with AOL. Used much less than the 1000 hours and for only 20 days.

After the 45 days were over AOL began billing my credit card for monthly service, which I never authorized. As I live abroad and the card is on autio-pay, 6 months charges accrued before I found out what was happening.

I requested a refund from AOL (I never used the account or asked for it) and they refused, stating that I should have called them to cancel when the free 45 days were over. I sent them a faz requesting cancellation of the never-requested account, they have not yet canceled it.

I complained to the credit card company (Citibank MasterCard) and they told me to sort it out with the vendor. They also refused to discontinue paying AOL, saying they are "required to pay vendors immediately" even, apparently, for fraudelent charges.

I am being billed for a service I nvere bought and apparently have no way to stop the charges since AOL ignores my request to cancel and Citibank refuses to honor my instructions to withold future payment. SO far I am out about $150 which both AOL and Citibank refuse to refund.
