In the Spring of 2003 Aol took my minor childs e-mail log on and created a separate account, then billed my Credit Card for both my account and my child's separately. When I tried to cancel my entire account they absolutely refused. But did remove the minor's account. Then in the Fall of 2003 they took my other minor child's e-mail log on and created another separate account again and charged my credit card double.
The only way I found out was by carefully reading everything on my Credit Card statement and noticing the double charges. Causing me to call AOL to see why they had charged me twice in the same month for the one Account I had authorized. I argued with there operator/service representative over an hour and still she refused to close my account. I did not want to continue any service with AOL. So I wrote letters to my Credit Card company asking them to deny any charges from AOL.
My credit card company did this - however AOL sent my account to collections. So once again, I called explained that I had been trying to get my account closed for months, and the man I spoke to also refused. When I finally threatened to Sue AOL. He relinquished and closed my account. However the collection agency continued to hound me for months. Until I finally relented and paid them - though I felt the charges were not valid at all. I just simply wanted to be DONE with AOL. Never sign up with AOL they will not cancel an account without sweating blood!
