I noticed a charge on my credit card for $149.95. I did NOT authorize this transaction. My investigation has revealed that the charge was made by "HDI Homeworks Plus" which links somehow to DealPass.com, and membershipme.com. A phone call to 888-585-5516 got a promise of a refund, but based upon what I read here and elsewhere on the Internet, I doubt that we will ever see a refund - didn't this company violate my trust with an unauthorized charge to begin with???
They claim that I made a purchase with my credit card 30-days prior to their charge, and that I authorized this transaction. Hmmmm, if that is so, why are there NO transactions on my credit card within weeks of when they claimed the original purchase was made??!!
I have reported this to the Division of Consumer Affairs in Florida. DCA is well know for their aggressive prosecution of such scams. I say, "stick it to 'em!".
A call to my credit card company was very enlightening. They were well aware of this company and its derivatives, and have issued internal bulletins about them and their fraudulent charges. The credit card company will be sending me a dispute form in 10 days.
What really irks me about all of this is that it appears that my personal credit card information (and yours to) can be electronically passed to these crooks when I make a legitmate Internet purchase. I recommend that we boycott and email-complain to those companies that have DealPass on the backend of their transactions... Anyone have a list?
