Don't go to Dr. Dutt if you're looking for a compassionate and caring physician! First of all, she'll make you wait for several hours in her waiting room. Then, she'll make you wait an additional thirty minutes to an hour, after one of her assistants does the preliminary tests that she can't be bothered with. She especially doesn't want to be bothered if you're low-income or don't have insurance.
When you actually get to see her, she acts like it's a bother to examine you at all, and uses an arcane machine to measure your eyes for contact lenses (and increases the pressure on your eyeballs if you tense up). Yeah that feels great. After that, she puts this eye-numbing gook in your eyes and pokes at them to test for glaucoma (she tries to say that her method is better than that little puff of air).
If that isn't enough to make you run screaming from the office, she can't be bothered with giving an accurate prescription (and boy, she doesn't like to be caught at it, either!). If you keep a record of your prescriptions from doctor (and I strongly suggest that you do) and check it against what she tries to give you (hey as long as you fork over the dough-that's all that matters), chances are that she'll give you a weaker one. Did I mention that she makes most of her money doing lasik surgeries?
Anyway, as it happened to me: I went back in, after telling the receptionist that my prescription couldn't possibly be right, since it was weaker (that just doesn't happen, as we who wear glasses and contacts know-she doesn't, by the way-probably never did, or lasik). Once again, I am greeted by the assistant (the good doctor just can't be bothered). She is pleasant and does the preliminary test again (telling me to keep my contact out for the retesting that the doctor will do).
When the doctor finally gets around to seeing me (probably hoping that I'd just give up and go home, while she keeps my money for the faulty exam), she asks me if I have my contacts in. When I tell her "No, I was told to keep them out"she talks down to me like I'm retarded or something. She says the way it's done, is by wearing the contacts, and "we correct it on top of the prescription (funny it's never been done like that anywhere else, but then, I've never had that problem anywhere else. Lol!). That's how it's done!"she says, sarcasticly, while smiling in a nasty way, superior way at her assistant.
She acts like she isn't even going to do any correction (says that if I didn't bring them, she "couldn't help me"-that's an understatement!), when I tell her that I have a pair of my contacts with my old prescription, and not the ones that she gave me. Which, by the way, were defective-they scratched my eyes and one of them curled up when I blinked my eye. When I told this to the assistant (not the one in the room with her, strangely enough), she told me that it's not unusual for disposable contacts to be defective in some way.
When I told this to the doctor, however, she repeated my words back to me, in the same sarcastic, condescending way as she did previously. I gave her my copy of my last prescription, from my last doctor, and when she went around the corner to the receptionist's desk, I could hear her complaining and joking with her (there was quite a lot of laughter too) about my predicament.
All I can say is that of all the optomologist and optomitrists I've gone to over the years (and yes, there have been quite a few), none have ever given me a wrong prescription, except for Dr. Dutt. Not only is she unprofessional, immature and rude, she also incompetent.
