While traveling between Phoenix AZ. And Long Beach Ca. With her mother, my 10 year old daughter developed some sever lower tummy pains. It was about 3 am and the decision was made to stop at Indio and get her checked out. My daughter is insured through my policy where I work and has an insurance card under my name. Its fair insurance but coverage is usually limited to approx. 60 % of the entire medical bill. To make a long story short, they took the medical insurance card, and proceeded to convince her mother she was possibly having an acute appendicitis attach - even though she had no temperature, side pains or was flush in color. I believe they lined her up for every test they could with complete cat scans, blood works, IV's etc.in the end an X-ray showed she was constipated and they wrote her a prescription for an enema, which her mother gave her later when they got home!
She was there approx 3 hours and diagnosised with constipatation, and they didn't even administer the enema!!! They waited till later and gave it to me in the form of a $12,000.00 medical bill!!! $12,000.00 to diagnosis constipation in a child traveling with lower tummy pains. Everyone I talk to from the insurance company to numerous doctors and nurses say its outragious, but nothing can be done to change the outcome. AND we wonder whats wrong with our medical health care, its obivious they can do whatever they want and no one can question what and why!!!
