Mega Health Insurance, Midwest Of Tennesse HealthMarkets: a horrible place to work

I started working for HealthMarkets in the spring of in Illinois. I thought hey a great place to make money and work my own hours. I was wrong.

My first week consisted of two days of "training" which were a joke. They were more about selling rather than getting to know the product. How can you feel comfortable selling a product that you don't know? I was told to focus on selling my customers a group rather then the benefits. This was my first red flag. Who cares more about a group then the benefits that their getting? But I took it upon myself to get to know the products.

You will spend most of the first month calling people that may or may not have "requested" information on health insurance... A year ago. Most of the numbers will disconnected. Making 100 calls a day just to make 5 or 6 appointments a week is horrible. It doesn't really happen. You will be lucky to get 2 or 3. Then you are expected to create a quote, present the products you know nothing about, and sell a policy on the spot. Most of the managers get in you face if you can't close on the first try. They publicly yell at you and call you out on every mistake you make. They also announce your bonuses and stock amounts in front of everyone, which i'm pretty sure is illegal.

The way the division manager shows you the pay schedule is wrong. You will not get paid every week. You only get paid every week if you sell something that week. If you don't, then you don't get paid. Bonuses are not really bonuses. This money is already witheld from your weekly check and then given to you in a big sum as if it's a bonus. And you only get a bonus if you're in good standing which is almost impossible to get with the crap products. So even if you don't get a bonus you don't get the money that you've actually earned back it goes to someone else. They also say you get the rest of what you are supposed to be payed in 6 months. Unless you stay with the company for years you will never see this money, trust me.

I thought some of the plans were good, but they lacked in several areas. The limits that they impose on major surgeries is ridiculous they also no longer have preventative care or ladies annual visits. I was brain washed into thinking that all other plans were crap and our was the only good one out there. THIS IS NOT TRUE! There are several companies that offer a much better product. I now work for more than 18 companies as a broker and i have made more with them in 3 months than i did with healthmarkets in 13.

This company is also a boys club. They expect that many of the women working for the company will jump at the chance to sleep with them. This is wrong. They also try to get the attractive women to Reunion to get them drunk and hope they can get some. No company should employ people that have sexual harassment suits against them. The divisions also only hire young attractive women that are under 40. I know, because i was one of them. I saw the qualified women that "were not 9s or 10s" get shown the door.

Let me finish by saying this is one of the worst opportunities you can find. Anytime a company makes you pay $193 to start up and then $80 for a class to prepare for a $180 test to get your Health and Life License that you also have to pay for, you know your in for a raw deal. Right away you paid more than $500 to start a new job. You will find yourself in more debt in this job than you will be able to get out in 3-4 years. I personally know more than 5 people that have filed for bankruptcy within one year of working for this company.

Trust me when i say that you can do much better than this company. Your time, effort, and money are worth more than this company can bring you. Don't get sucked into a job that you actually pay them to let you work.
