Charged bank account after membership cancelled and kept the money

After cancelling my membership with the gym, my bank account was charged for membership after 6 months as my account was noted as being on a freeze for 6 months instead of being cancelled. After calling the gym and notifying them of this, I asked that my account be put on hold until this could be straightened out. Golds Gym and their financial institution, ABC Finance, went ahead and charged my account anyway. My account had been closed and I received 2 overdraft charges for a $27.00 each.

I personally went to the gym and had to make out new paperwork for cancellation and was told I had to pay 2 months membership even though I was not utilizing the gym and had advised them of my cancellation. After handing over the 2 months membership dues and being told that my account would not be charged, ABC and Golds went ahead and attempted to withdraw money from my account which resulted in another $27.00. They will not refund my overdraft charges unless I submit my personal bank account statement. According to the Regional Manager for Golds Gym, they need to see that they are responsible for my overdraft charges. Even after being told that this account was closed and they charged me for July after I paid them cash for July and was assured my account was closed and that I would not be charged.

They will not refund my money.
