On December 22, my uncle joined 24 Hour Fitness, while visiting a friend in Arizona. He paid $699.99 for his membership and the personal training package. Nine days after giving 24 Hour Fitness over $600.00 my uncle passed away suddenly.
As clearly stated in their contract, "in the event of becoming disabled or death, a refund will be issued. It took me weeks to get through to the manager of the Phoenix club who assured me that a refund would not be a problem but he had to go through the proper channels and he would get back to me the following day. I never heard from him again.
Recently, my uncle's attorney phoned 24 Hour Fitness to inquire about the refund; he was told that they don't speak to attorneys and they hung up on him.
24 Hour Fitness is nothing but a crime ring. Why have a contract if you are not going to honor it? They should be ashamed of themselves for stealing from a dead man and his grieving family.
