After seeing all the billboards, hearing the radio commercials, and basically seeing their name plastered everywhere in town along with this offer they were advertising, I went into Palm Beach Tan to sign up for it.
The ad clearly states that you get a month's worth of tanning for $19.95, and that it is a monthly membership. So, $19.95 a month, right? Wrong! The salesperson I talked to had me convinced too that it was $19.95 a month and was very confusing in the way they presented it to me. As it turns out, there is a $20 start-up fee, and the FIRST month is $19.95, and THEN every month after that it is $29.95 every month taken automatically from your credit card!
So really the first month isn't even cheaper, its $39.95, and then you get a $29.95 charge every month whether you can afford it or not. Plus, you've signed a contract and you pretty much can't get out of paying it. I felt like I was rushed into signing it before I really understood what it was.
I thought I was going to be paying about $20/month for unlimited tanning, and now when I count it out, after a year I will have been charged $369!!! That's way more than I ever intended on spending on a tanning salon. Really deceptive advertising I feel like I was scammed and taken advantage of. And now I'm stuck with a membership to this business. Not pleased.
