Unauthorized debit from checking account Illinois

I recently saw a book on an infomercial on TV, wanted a copy so phoned the number advertized during the program. The information provided during the infomercial as well as by company representative indicated this book is free except shipping and handling fee of $14.95. I should have known at this time that a free book with a $14.95 fee was not a good idea. Oh did I mention that I was told that my free book will arrive in 10 days.

Even with today's cost of fuel it would only cost me $79 to drive from Austin, Texas to Chicago, Illinois. The $14.95 shipping charge is a whopping 19% of my entire fuel cost for driving to Chicago. This book sure must weight a lot or is packaged so well not even a page will bend out of shape.

I looked at my checking account yesterday and notice two different debits for $1.00 each by a company named UMG*MYAD AND UMG BUYEDG. I phoned the 1-888-326-7156 number to discuss this and was informed that along with the free book ordered that I "agreed" to join a "book club". Are you kidding me?

After much discussion I informed Ms. #J4063 (customer service person) that this entire product/promotion is a scam and that any fees removed from my account without my authorization is consider fraudulent; I demanded that the "book club" be canceled, the $2 fee be returned to my account. I also informed Ms. #J4063 that if I receive the "free book" I will be more than happy to return to the company for a $14.95 shipping and handling fee.

Needless to say Ms. #J4063 did agree to cancel everything and return the $2 to my account. I did request confirmation # for this call and cancelation; and was provided I.D. #J4063 which is the same number of the customer service representative. I do plan on turning this entire event into my Attorney General and the U.S. Postmaster.

Finally, beware of the book titled "Natural Cure" which is supposed to offer new information related to health and well being. The only Natural Cure related to this book is naturally getting ripped off and another greedy, scamming company getting rich, "Naturally".
