I took out a policy with CrossAmerica in early 2007. During that period my family and I incurred around $3,000 in health care costs in all of it preventative care stuff, office visits & blood screens, etc.
In spite of the coverage promises made in their marketing literature, to date CrossAmerica has paid exactly $200 in claims, all of it long past the service dates. I've received more invoices with the "insurance carrier has not responded" than I care to remember and have been forced to deal with the health care providers personally. I have paid, or am in the process of paying, the balance myself.
I've spent hours on the phone with these guys in an effort to address this problem. There was a pattern in the way such calls were handled; the same excuses were always provided - coverage date conflicts, no claim or recently received claim, etc - followed by promises to clean up the mess but no action was ever taken.
To make matters worse, CrossAmerica has gone through three or four administrators since I joined so simply getting someone on the phone is a real achievement.
Most frustrating of all is CrossAmerica has had no problem withdrawing the monthly premium from our family account.
All I can say is thank God we didn't have to depend upon them for a medical emergency. Stay away from this racket.
