I have had nothing but a horrible and upsetting experience with Medco. I have been in the medical billing field for 20 years and currently work with dialysis patients. The patient is my first priority ALWAYS. When I had an adverse reaction to a generic medication that I take daily I had my Doctor call in the name brand. I didnt receive the replacement for 2 weeks! That was only after many upsetting phone calls. Medcos #1 concern was getting their $150.00 copay (which I would always pay by mail/check) not the fact that I was without my medication. I cant imagine what happens with people who dont have my experience with insurance companies and resolving denials. You need a PHD when a denial or issue arises and then its an uphill battle from there. Its all the game of pass the buck back and forth so theres no accountability. Its wrong, wrong, wrong. Shame on them. I swore I would never get my Rx filled with them again. But low and behold they handle all authorizations for medications and once again I received a denial for max units covered of 60 grams and the size of the medication is 100grams. You cant win, they hold the reigns. After calling UHC and being transferred 3 times I was advised that to get the medication covered at the premium 30 day supply copay of $50.00 that I would need not 1 but 2 authorizations. Thats crazy. Something needs to be done to reel in these greedy companies who primary concern is money. I can only hope that by some miracle of God that theyll grow a conscience when it comes to the human condition.
