Florida Eye Health in Fort Myers, FL does vision laser and eyelid surgery. I had an appointment with them to test my eyes for eleylid surgery. After running through the tests, they told me they would submit the results to my insurance company to determine whether or my insurance company would cover the surgery. A couple of weeks later their office called and told me that my insurance company (Cigna HMO) had approved me for coverage. I had the surgery a few weeks later. A month or so afterwards, I received a bill from Cigna denying coverage claiming that Dr. Frantz's office never send in any predetermination. I contacted Cigna, and they showed no record that the doctor's office ever even called to ask about my health coverage.
I called Florida Eye Health's billing department and they claim that Cigna told them that pre-determination wasn't necessary. So they are blaiming it on Cigna, Cigna claims that the FL Eye Health never called them or sent anything.in the meantime, Florida Eye Health made me sign an affidavit that holds me responsible for payment if the insurance company denies payment.
This is a lesson to eveyone out there that your doctor's office CANNOT be trusted to verify coverage with your insurance company. They can lie to you and claim they called the insurance company when indeed they did not.
