Heartland Primary Care - Billing Department No Insurance Discrimmination - Self Employed Business Owne

I am a small business owner and I don't have health insurance, I think its a rip off. I save my money and pay cash if I get ill. But I am pretty much a very healthy person.

But a few weeks ago I became ill with a sinus infection, I went to my doctor that I have been seeing for a long time, 3 years or better.

Remember I am very ill walking in to the doctors office:

When I checked in the lady at the desk would not let me sit down in the waiting room. I had to take a sheet of paper back to billing and give them $100 before I could see the doctor. "New Billing Policy that just went into effct" I was told, rudely.

So I said no, I always pay my bill in full after I have seen the doctor. So usually my bill is only $50.00 unless you need x-rays or test of course. She asked how much I could pay her today and I said only $50 thats what the bill always is.

The lady in billing said she would except this $50 this time but next time it will be $100 and the difference will be refunded to me at the end of the billing period. So I said whatever I need to see my doctor and I am sick and not going to mess with you now. And I sit down to wait.

I seen my doctor, Haidrai and his nurse Christine and made them aware of what the billing dept. Said to me when I came in. So my doctor sent me on my way with meds to take for 5 days. He instructed me to come back if I am not better in a few days.

So I got worse within a few days, I called in and I was told to come back in and get x rayed by the doctors nurse Christine. I did return and again I was confronted with the billing dept. At check in after standing in line being very ill, but worse at this time.

And I told the lady in billing that this is a follow up visit with my doctors instructions and I am not giving you $100 every time I need to come back in here.

And the lady in billing was so nasty to me because I did not have insurance. I asked her did'nt she think that was a little extreme? What if I had to come back 2,3, 4 times in a week? $100 each visit? And I will get a refund for the difference? Yea right.

And the billing lady rudely snatched my paper from my hand and said thats right, "I don't care if you have to come in here 10 times a week it will be $100 each time if you don't have any insurance"

I lost my cool that day and I requested for my medical records which I was told I would get in the mail within a week and its been almost a month now, still waiting. I did not get to see my doctor that day. I was turned away for medical care and my doctor knew I was ill.

Christine his nurse was right there telling me I need to be seen by a doctor because she seen how much worse I had gotten within a few days but the billing lady would not allow it. And they let me walk out of there crying for medical assistance and very ill because of the biiling policy change.

Why was'nt the existing patients made aware of this change?

Luckly, my friend called to check on me right after that happened. To see what the doctor had to say. And I told her the story.

She gave me to her doctor and he seen me that same day for only $70 and said I had Cronic Broncitius. GAVE me the correct meds and I was getting better within a few days. It was amazing.

Anyhow I think something needs to be done about that place and the people that rule it. I don't know what can be done if anything.

I just think it is so un -humanly and cold to do that to somebody.

Thank you.
